Bass: Rising temps have largemouth moving into the grass almost everywhere. Get into and around the cover by using a mix of Topwater Frogs, Swimjigs, Senkos (Wacky, Neko, Weightless), and Punch Rigs. Live Bait options are heavy on Medium Roach Minnows from recent reports, however some anglers are still using Crawlers. As usual, nearly every local pond has been producing good bass. Some of the forest preserves have also been great, like Monee Reservoir, Bullfrog Lake, Mallard Lake, Kankakee River State Park, and Papoose Lake, all with good reports in the last few days. Smallmouth are mostly still on beds or early post spawn. The usual jigs, dropshots, and even topwater have been great.
Pike: Good numbers in the Des Plaines River around Columbia Woods down to Isle A la Cache. More anglers also reporting catches along the Chicago lakefront as well as Wolf Lake. Expect topwaters, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, Roach Minnows and Sucker Minnows to produce solid Pike.
Bluegill: There are still some roamers across beds around the shallows, but many have moved to the outer grass edges. Try throwing a Gulp Minnow or Redworm. Grass edges near drop-offs will hold better sized panfish after the spawn. Monee Reservoir, Papoose Lake, Rock Run Rookery, and Tampier have been solid.
Catfish: Braidwood, LaSalle, along with the Illinois and Kankakee Rivers have all had better reports within the last week. Expect good numbers on your traditional dip baits like Triple S "Sonny's" Catfish Bait, and use a cut bait like Skipjack or Shad for better size. Lots of the WI and MI river systems and lakes have also been on fire if you are planning a trip.
